Fertile Field is managed by a team of dedicated youth from all over the country. The editorial team is chosen from a pool of applicants at the beginning of each academic year. The current team is profiled below.
David Bikman, former composer of rock operas and third member of the now defunct supergroup WHAM, edits content for Fertile Field. He intends to graduate next year with a degree in economics, just as soon as he learns how to read. In his spare time, the future Nobel Prize Winner enjoys college radio, philanthropy (receiving), macrame, picturesque rural scenes at sunset, fishing for compliments, and ruminating ruefully into cups of coffee on the nature of modernity. When not trying to impress his professors with witty bon mots, he works as a grantwriter and research assistant at Portland State University. On a map of Portland, Oregon he lives in G-8, and can be reached by emailing dbikman[at]usbnc.org.
Samantha Gammons is a first time member of the Fertile
Field editorial team. She hails from Mount Holyoke
College in Western Massachusetts, where she's an East
Asian Studies major and Religion minor. She is
involved in Baha'i activities with other youth on her
campus as well as in the greater Massachusetts Pioneer
Valley. She enjoys singing in her a capella group
(called the Mount Holyoke Milk & Cookies) and playing
squash. If you are interested in contacting her or submitting
to the new fiction section of Fertile Field, you can
contact her at chinagrl9 [at] yahoo.com.
Lacey is the designer, webmaster and managing editor of Fertile Field and she serves full time at the US Baha'i National Center as the Youth Desk Coordinator. Lacey also manages a personal website, enjoys photography, drawing, comic books, and photographing and drawing comic books (or at least drawing them, or dreaming about drawing them...in any case). She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia, obtained in the Summer of 2001. Some special interests include indie rock concerts, domestic travel, the Five Year Plan, and working with other youth all over the country, via email and in person. Email her at lgraves [at] usbnc.org.
After returning from an amazing year of service in Tanzania, Africa, Steve is once again studying, and hoping to transfer to the University of Washington as a junior. When not hitting the books he enjoys a variety of sports, particularly ultimate Frisbee, as well as photography, dancing, etc, and is currently starting an art import business. He hopes to do much more travelling all over the globe and can be reached at semvi[at]comcast.net.
Maria Elena Nelson is currently a freshman at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, working towards a degree in Environmental Health and a minor in either Comparative Religions or International Studies. She is involved throughout campus with her dorm hall council, WASHPirg, and Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. Her interests include synchronized swimming at the UW, 80's music, vegetarianism, dancing, and getting involved in her local Baha'i community. You can contact her at mnelson8785 [at] yahoo.com
Geoffrey is one of the contributing editors and writers of Fertile Field. He is currently a sophmore at the University of Alabama in Huntsville where he is majoring in English and Political Science. Just a couple of his many special interests include reading, travelling, being outdoors, playing classical guitar, and serving the Baha'i Faith in any way possible. Email him at gtyson09[at]hotmail.com.
